Denmark Flag

The Dannebrog is a white Nordic cross on a red field. The cross's vertical arm is offset to the left, a feature adopted by all Scandinavian national flags that descended from this design.

The official proportions are 28:37 (approximately 3:4). The flag is rectangular; a swallow-tail version (Splitflag) is used by the military and royal family.

According to legend, the Dannebrog fell from the sky during the Battle of Lyndanisse (Estonia) in 1219, boosting Danish morale. While the legend is apocryphal, the flag is documented in use by at least the 14th century, making it one of the oldest continuously used national flags in the world.

The design inspired every other Nordic country's flag — Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, and the Faroe Islands all adopted variants of the offset cross pattern, creating the distinctive Nordic flag family.
